Your guide will meet you at your hotel and debut of the sightseeing. Gilgit is the capital of Gilgit-Baltistan Province. By the 11st century the Gilgit area had become the powerful independent kingdom of Dardistan and equal in strength to Kashmir. After 11th century the whole area was converted to Islam and today there are three main branches, Sunni, Shia and Ismailis.
Departure to Kargah in 4x4 jeep. Kargah is situated at a disance of a few kilomerters in the outskirts of Gilgit. There, you will explore Buddha magnificently carved in the roc in 7th century. A monastery and three Stupas about 400 m upstream from the Buddha were excavated in 1931 (not accessible to visitors).
Return to Gilgit. You will then walk through the bazaar and the famous suspended bridge. This suspension bridge over the fast flowing Gilgit river is the largest in Asia (182 meters long). If you are lucky enough, you will probably see players practising Polo. Gilgit is well known for this game and for having an excellent team of Polo. A halt on the bank of Gilgit River will certainly be a good occasion for you to take photos of this lush green valley with snow covered Rakaposhi peak at the back. Tea will be served to you in the garden of a local motel.
