Your guide will pick you up from your hotel. Skardu town is perched at an altitude of 2440 m above sea level in the backdrop of the great Karakorams. The local Balti people are a mixture of Tibetan and Caucasian culture and speak Balti, an ancient form of Tibetan. Due to the proximity of its culture, lifestyle and architecture with Tibet, this region is also known as the "Tibet-e-Khurd" (Little Tibet).
It is the capital of Skardu District. It constitutes one of the seven districts of the Gilgit-Baltistan Province. It is bounded on the southeast by Kargil district (within Indian-administered Kashmir), on the east by Ghanche District, on the northeast by Xinjiang (China), on the south by Baramulla and Kargil District, on the west by Astor district and on the north by Gilgit.
It has its borders with the Chinese province of Xinjiang and Indian Kashmir. This zone is also known as trekkers and mountaineers paradise as it is the starting point to treks and peaks all around the valley. Five of its lush green valleys offer you the quietude and tranquillity: Shigar, Skardu, Khaplu, Rondu and Kharmang. During the summer season, one cannot resist to its luscious peaches, apricots, apples and pears.
Our day’s programme will commence by the visit of Skardu Fort atop a ridge and overlooking the whole town. We depart in the direction of Satpara. You will discover en route, a meditating Buddha surrounded by dozens of small bodhisattvas, carved on the north face of a large rock about halfway between Skardu and Satpara.
We shall then leave for Satpara Lake, situated at 08 km south of Skardu at 20 minutes drive. The lake is well stocked with trout. In the nearby village, people speak Shina, the main language of the Gilgit valley whereas Balti is spoken in all other surrounding valleys.
Return to your hotel in Skardu and end of our services. |
